To the Legislative Assembly of Ontario:
WHEREAS assistive devices are essential for the independence, dignity, and well-being of Ontarians living with long-term physical disabilities and they are critical to navigating their daily life;
WHEREAS many assistive devices are excluded from the program and Ontarians living with disabilities are forced to pay for them out of pocket, placing an unfair strain on them and their families;
WHEREAS Ontarians living with disabilities want to live independently, participate fully in society and enjoy the qualify of life they deserve;
THEREFORE WE, THE UNDERSIGNED, PETITION THE LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLY OF ONTARIO AS FOLLOWS:
To modernize the Ontario Ministry of Health’s Assistive Devices Program as follows:
1. Expand the categories of covered assistive devices to ensure Ontarians have access to the equipment they need;
2. Adopt a patient-centric, accessible approach that puts individuals’ needs at the forefront; and
3. Engage directly with people with disabilities to make decisions on program improvements and address evolving needs.
